Currently, students are encouraged to bring headphones from home and the school provides students with standard bulky headphones. The provided headphones are heavy and fit tight on the ears. While most students do not complain, they are very uncomfortable and can become painful after extended periods of time. We would like to provide students with a more comfortable alternative. This, in turn, will help reduce student behaviors triggered by discomfort. When they become irritated, they are unable to focus which impacts performance and often leads to a student shutting down or acting out. We see this happen in the classroom, in the computer lab, and it is even a greater concern now that STAAR Testing takes place online. We would like to provide students with choices. While some will choose the headphones others would prefer earbuds. This grant would allow us to provide more options. In addition to addressing this concern, we would like to provide students with headphones that have microphones so that they can take advantage of the new app available by the district, Read Along. This app allows students to read text aloud and receive AI support. The program also tracks data to provide teachers with more information about reading levels.Our campus does not have headphones with microphones at this time.
