The Grow Zone- Rebecca Couey- Ninth Grade Campus Special Education
The Grow Zone is a raised bed garden collaboration project between 18+ Adult Transition Services, JHS Engineering students, and JHS Contstruction students. The 18+ ATS team is made up of young adults with disabilities aged 18-22. ATS students work on IEP goals in the areas of employment, education/training, independent living, and recreation/leisure to prepare them and their families for life after public school. The Grow Zone would provide an opportunitiy to work on both vocational tasks for employment seeking students and independent living tasks for students working on life skills. For everyone, The Grow Zone would be an appropriate adult recreation and leisure experience. JHS Engineering students will design the project and JHS Construction students will complete the build. Initial plans include one raised garden bed with future opportunities to expand to a picnic table, more beds, and a space to enjoy the outdoors for all 18+ students. All materials can be purchsed through the JISD Home Depot Pro account and approval has been obtained for the garden to be located behind the 9th Grade Campus. Each ticket contributes $50 with a total of 8 tickets for purchase to contribute to this project. Every dollar is so appreciated and we allow partial funding of any of the grants.
